I'm so grateful for Emory for sharing excerpts from her newest book, On to Us a Child's Born, to help immerse us in a journey towards the promised King Jesus this Advent season. This reading is titled, God with us. Can you imagine a greater gift than that?
0:23.7	We're praying that you have a very merry and blessed Christmas, from the Vellotin family to yours.
0:30.1	A virgin will conceive and give birth and call his name Emmanuel, God with us.
0:39.7	Isaiah's prophecy took 700 years to come to fruition,
0:44.2	but Luke tells us of Mary,
0:46.4	a young woman, perhaps 14 or 15 years old,
0:50.3	who was favored by God.
0:53.0	Can you imagine what it felt like to have Gabriel appear before you?
0:57.4	To be in the presence of a being who radiates with the holiness of God.
1:03.9	And how does a teenager betrothed, not yet married, grapple with the news that she will become pregnant and not only carry,
1:13.3	but also raise the Savior, the Messiah that her people had longed for. Oh, that I may be like
1:22.9	Mary in my responses to the Lord when he favors me with an assignment.
1:29.4	I am your servant.
1:32.8	May your word to me be fulfilled.
1:36.7	And the Holy Spirit came upon her,
1:40.7	and the power of the mighty one overshadowed her,
1:51.0	and immediately an embryo began to grow within her, God in her, becoming God with us. Emmanuel, the infinite, impossibly becoming finite, through the impossible conception of the divine overshadowing its own creation,
2:03.9	the humility of the word in the beginning with God, becoming a babe who could not speak
2:13.5	or crawl but only cry and sleep.
2:23.2	God, who was before in the beginning,
2:27.1	who created everything we know and experience by simply speaking it into being
2:29.6	who is not only creator, but sustainer.
