Hello and welcome to another CollectingCars podcast. We're in Los Angeles today and I'm

with an old buddy of mine whose name many of you will recognise but some of you won't.

He's called Brian Scotto. He's a very, very large tool man who has a fascinating story

in the automotive media industry because he's one of the brains behind those amazing gym

carnafilms. But I knew him quite a long time before that and I wanted to sit down and talk

to him and let him tell us a bit about his journey through car magazines, well car clubs

and then car magazines and then ultimately being in charge of what must be the most recognisable,

automotive media brand around top gear or fast and furious is created a monster. So welcome,

Brian. Thanks, I'm happy that you started with all the compliments. I hope the insults were

in there. They'll come in, don't worry, in terms of deadlines and stuff like that.

So you are, you're now Mr. Hooligan which was a spin off from those gym holidays but let's

go back. It starts at the beginning. So where did the bloke who was standing on the segue

famously with Ken, Ken Block drifting around him? Where did the passion for cars start?

So I grew up in New York City and that's one of those places that doesn't really

give you the passion for cars, right? It's just cars are not really a part of the New York City

life but my grandfather was one of those like, you know, rags to riches types, you know, and he

struggled most of his life and in about the last 10 years of his life, he kind of put together

company with his wife that made a ton of money and he spent all of it on cars. So realize this

happened right around the time I was born. So I grew, he lived till about I was eight years old

and so for those eight years, what cars were talking about? Um, he, you know, at the time, the coolest

thing he had which I have now learned is not really that great of a car is it was a DeLorean,
