| 0:28.6 | going to be focusing specifically on the EU today. Now, China's experts, exports are often caught up |

| 0:40.7 | But let's assume that not all listeners are trade experts today. |
| 0:42.3 | So walk us through it one step at a time. |
| 0:47.4 | Starting from the key question, what is dumping and why does China have so much at stake here? |
| 0:53.8 | Well, dumping is quite simply when an exporting product is sold in another country below the value on its own market |
| 0:57.1 | or below the cost to make the product that it's selling. |
| 1:00.5 | And the Chinese in particular have had a lot of their exports affected by these considerations |
| 1:05.7 | on the assumption that they are being dumped on European markets. |
| 1:08.5 | Absolutely. The very large majority of EU tariffs for dumping and anti-subsidy are against China. |
| 1:15.9 | And of course this means that there is less likelihood for those goods that have tariffs |
| 1:20.9 | that EU importers are going to buy the Chinese goods. |
| 1:23.8 | And under WTO rules, the EU is committed to free trade, but it can impose tariffs if it fears products are indeed being dumped on the market. |
| 1:33.3 | And that is what has been occurring with a number of Chinese products. |
| 1:38.9 | But there's, I suppose, a wider context to all of this. |
