So not too long ago, I was driving through the town of Bielton, California, not too far

from Santa Barbara, and something I saw on a billboard may be nearly slam on my brakes.

And calls itself home of the split pea soup, the pea soup capital of the free world.

Now that doesn't grab the attention of a food podcast host, nothing will.

And it's all because of this beloved restaurant called pea soup Anderson's, which has been

around since 1924.

The food is roadside diner food, hearty breakfast, chicken fried steaks.

But it's their split pea soup that's really their brilliant marketing hook.

And for the record, the soup is really tasty.

If you're a small town looking for folks to stop through and spend a few bucks, attaching

your town to a food item isn't the worst idea.
