It's the gist, I'm Mike Paska.

President Biden spoke yesterday about his love of country,

his sense of duty. He said I revere this office but

I love my country more and he added nothing nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy.

That includes personal ambition.

In the speech he referenced Lincoln, FDR, Washington, and Thomas Jefferson.

Good to see that guy getting a shout out from a Democrat, but in the moment I played,

he was channeling Madison.

He was sub-tweeting, or as the kids say, sub-Xing, maybe tech billionaires say that one federalist 51 where Madison wrote ambition

must be made to counteract ambition the founders were very wary of

ambition they were inventing reinventing democracy after 2,000 years and knew that personal skills as

wielded by a demagogue could be quite insorceling to the masses.

That particular phrase laid out the case for checks and balances. It was a procedural

stay on ambition. But the idea that we know this potent force lies within the breast of man and must be channeled that does apply to

Biden and what he was doing and what he was saying.

Biden knows that his opponent, which he called democracy or the threat to democracy but is in point of fact

Donald Trump clearly has ambition personal lots of personal but plausibly

also quite destructive on a grander level.

To counter that ambition you need a force unto itself.

Biden was saying his personal ambition shouldn't be the overriding concern but he's also

acknowledging that the opposition to Trump at least it needs to be potent in its own
