All right, let's do it. Oil prices surged Monday day after the oil producing Alliance OPEC announced substantial cuts in production.

It was a surprise move that reaffirmed Saudi Arabia, the group's leader as the giants in the oil market, and not surprisingly, it pushed oil prices a whole lot higher.

US leaders and other Western officials voiced their displeasure at the move.

The cuts total more than 1.1 million barrels a day or 1% of global production.

It starts next month. Brent crude, the international price rose about 6% to about $84.50 a barrel.

The price of West Texas intermediate crude, the US standard traded up to over 80 bucks a barrel.

Sunday surprise announcement signaled a potential new threat to global efforts to curb inflation, and a challenge to the Biden administration, which has been pushing for lower gas prices.
