Welcome to the News Hour. What started a month ago as a challenge to the Trump administration's

0:05.8

deportation policy has morphed into a full-blown battle over executive and judicial power.

0:11.8

For the first time, a federal judge in Washington said there is probable cause to hold the

0:16.8

administration in criminal contempt. This, after Judge James Bosberg, says Trump officials

0:22.3

defied his orders to turn around planes carrying deported migrants to a mega prison in El Salvador.

0:28.4

The administration says it will appeal. To explain what this latest order means, we're joined

is that, you know, Chief Judge Bozberg, even though this is a pretty important step, it's actually

1:21.1

still a fairly cautious one. He's not holding anyone in contempt yet. He's saying, I think there's probable cause to believe there's

1:29.4

contempt. And he wants to know more. He wants the government to produce more information about exactly

1:34.7

who knew what, when about those three plane flights. So we've now had a response from the White

House as well. Communications Director Stephen Chung posted this online. He said, we plan to seek

immediate appellate relief. The president is 100% committed to ensuring that terrorists and criminal
