It's Cyclone Fanatic Daily here in the Northwest Bank Studios, and the studios have made its way north for a day.

I'm at the Sukup Basketball Complex in Ames for the third basketball availability of the summer.

And today we talk to two very different freshmen.

The first one is Jumarian Bateman.

He is your typical freshman who just graduated high school. He was

the Val of Victorian at his high school in Milwaukee, also a four-star guard. And we also talk to

Dominicus Plata, the German, who is 20 years old. He's already played professionally, and he's still

got four years of eligibility remaining. But I want to talk about Bateman first. To many fans,

he's probably known as a lethal shooter, which I expect he will be, but his focus is on defense.

He saw how much Taman Lipsy played as a freshman and is trying to follow in Taman's footsteps.

I feel like it's a lot of players out there that just focus on wanting to put the ball in the

hole, thinks that would catch the eye of people. But when you defend first, I feel like

it gets your offense going even more. When I'm having a good defensive day, that's when I start

to hit shots. That's when I make the right reads because it just gives you a boost of energy.

Like say I miss a shot or something like getting that defensive boosts like,

boosts me like, okay, you're fine, you're here, you're doing something productive.

And then also for the team, when the team see those kind of things,

everybody rises and everybody gets some kind of juice to do something productive.
