Welcome to the Andy Staples Show, goes to the movies edition.

We've got to come up with some stuff to keep us all entertained with no sports.

And I can't think of a better way to do it than by watching classic college football movies and making fun of them.

And that's what we're going to do today.

We've got a series that's starting.

And this is episode one of three.

We're going to do three classic college football movies.

Today we're doing Rudy.

Later, we'll be doing necessary roughness in the program.

But today, we're going to get to our favorite film about everyone's favorite walk-on, Daniel Rudy Rudiger.

And to talk about it, I bring on two guys steeped in Notre Dame lore.

Pete Sampson covers Notre Dame for The Athletic.

Matt Fortuna, one of our national writers, has been a Notre Dame

beat writer. He has been to the grotto many times. He has probably sat on the bench where Rudy got

his acceptance letter and read it. So I feel like you guys are the best people to do this.

Now, before we get started, let's talk about how we originally consumed Rudy,

because I think that's important too. It's sort of, you know, where this hits you in your life

and what you're doing in life when you watch it for the first time, I think affects how you feel

about it going forward. So for me, this came out in October of 1993. We all left after our Thursday

football practice. I was a sophomore in high school. I had just been moved up to the varsity

for the end of the season. So this was not like opening weekend. This had been out for a little while

because I didn't get moved up until November.
