district is planning to ban cell phones and social media

within the school. This is taking place in California in Los Angeles and it's a decision to ban cell phones during school hours. It affects

49,000 students and they say they want to help students concentrate better in class.

The district's leaders, they're worried that students spend too much time on their phones,

which they say could hurt not only their mental health, but their grades. I think this is really interesting and we would

I can't say that word kids should be able to screw around on their phone. No, I don't think that. I think this comes down to good parenting and consequences.

But in this, it's a public school. Don't they get to make the rules on how the environment in which kids learn obviously

it's elected people that are doing this through the will of the voters etc.

But you think a kid in a middle class should be able to just get out and play on their

cell phone?

No, I don't think so.

But I think that they should have the right to have it in their backpack if needed

or in their locker or in their coat pocket.

So is the rule then you can't even bring it into the building with you?
