Hello and thank you for joining us on the Scotland Outdoors podcast.

I'm Hugh and McElwraith and this week we were delighted to join our broadcasting colleagues from the Celtic nations for a celebration of birdsong.

Sunday was International Dawn Khoris Day and just after midnight outside broadcasting trucks

quietly crept into locations across northern and southern Ireland, Wales, Cornwall,

the Isle of Man and of course Scotland. They were joined by presenters, experts and technicians

all linked with the joy of birdsong

to bring a truly unique wildlife experience to the world.

I was in the north-east of Scotland, closest to the rising sun, so in theory our dawn chorus

would be the first.

But the whole annual event was the brainchild of Derek Mooney from RTE in Ireland,

who hosted the programme throughout the night from his location in the gentle rain,

just outside Cork.

And a very good morning to you and welcome to do the annual broadcast of the dawn chorus on RTE

Radio 1 and on RTE Lyric FM live from Cuskenny Marsh Nature Reserve on the Great

Island in Cork Harbour in Cove in County Cork. Well this morning we are celebrating the Celtic

dawn chorus so at this point I want to say a very good morning to listeners on BBC Radio Foil, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Scotland, and BBC Radio Cornwall for the first time. So good morning to you and our friends on the Isle of Man.
