Good evening. I'm John Dickerson.

I'm Maurice Dubois. We begin with a new series of wildfires in

Central and Northern California that officials say was sparked by a lightning storm. Multiple homes

were destroyed in a historic gold rush town. Hundreds of families have been forced from their homes.

More than three dozen fires are burning across California.

Most have started this week and are part of a cluster of fires in Calaveras and Tuolome counties.

So far they've burned more than 13,000 acres.

Lonnie Quinn will be here in a moment to explain the dangerous lightning conditions,

but first Jonathan Vigliotti,

leads us off in Tuolome County, about 80 miles southeast of Sacramento.
