Berman is a three-time entrepreneur with experience launching and building scalable businesses.

She yields a BS from Boston University and an MBA from the Saeed Business School at the

University of Oxford.

Today, I'd like to take you on what I call the journey of other.

And what I mean by other is that feeling that I bet most of us in this room have had of feeling different,

of feeling not in the in-group, a feeling the minority. And I don't mean the obvious other,

you know, the one that nightmares are made of where you're standing in front of the class and I'm

naked and you're all laughing at me. I mean the more subtle other that many of us have felt.

Perhaps because the color of our skin,

or perhaps the way we say a word with a particular accent

can be because of the car our parents drove,

the clothing choice we decided to make today.

I'm talking about that feeling of other

that is nuanced.

That perhaps no one around you even knows you feel.

And yet you feel it.

And it can make you feel defensive.
