Perhaps the most consequential war of the ancient world was the second Punic War because that decided

who would be the master of the Mediterranean?

Rome or Carthage. They had vastly different cultures and if Carthage had won it would lead to

a very fascinating alternate history. This war was decided famously in Italy when Hannibal led

elephants over the Alps but was later defeated in a war of attrition. But one side of this war

that spun almost completely overlooked is the battle that took place in Iberia.

Iberia was one of the three crucial theaters of the Second Punic War.

Hannibal of Carthage's Siege of Saugunha in 219 BC, triggered a conflict that led to immense human and material losses on both sides,

Then in 2008 BC, the famous Roman general, Scipio Africanus, the eventual annihilation. Today's guest, Meir Bahmaniar, author of Second Punic War in Iberia, 220 to 2006 BC,

brings to life the key personalities and events of this important theater of the war, explains why the Roman victory at Bakula led to a strategic shift in Carthage's eventual defeat.
