Executive Chairman after I ran the Consumer Products Group for 10 years and I'm a philanthropist.

Carol Avon Bernick is the former executive chairman of Alberto Culver, who guided the company through its $3.7 billion acquisition by Unilever.

She explains what it was like to take over her parents' company,

develop new products, and teach the next generation about wealth.

So, Carol, I'd like to go back to the beginning.

Your parents bought a small beauty supply business, right? And they grew it into a major

consumer goods company, Alberta Culver. And many of our listeners know the products. They know St. I'm V.O. 5,

Press and the name, the list goes on and on. Your parents were building this

company while you were growing up and what was that like? Both my mom and dad were working parents and it was actually I thought it was kind of cool.

I had both parents home talking about business, talking about what they did and they were real team.

They loved what they did.

My mom, even though we lived four miles from the office,

my mother left first, my father followed so she could beat him home it was kind of a funny family joke
