Our guest this week is a producer, author, actor, Emmy-winning writer, and Oscar-nominated director.

He started out his performing career as a member of the San Francisco-based comedy troupe, The Committee,

and went on to write and perform in popular variety shows and situation comedies, such as the Glenn Campbell Good Time Hour, the Flip

Wilson Special, the George Burns Comedy Week, the Ken Berry Wow Show, Chico and the man,

all in the family, the odd couple, the Bob Newhart show, and of course the groundbreaking

and rule-breaking Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, for which he was

awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement and Comedy.

He also wrote the feature films Dr. Detroit and the Richard Pryor vehicle,

Which Way Is Up, directed the Ringo Star comedy, Caveman, and Oscar-nominated short,

The Absent-Minded Wader, and appeared in movies Mesh, The Long Goodbye,

Johnny Dangerously, and Clueless, and of course, in a pair of iconic films that he also

happened to write.

Steve Martin's The Jerk and a little picture called Jaws.

He's also the screenwriter of the sequels,

Jaws 2 and Jaws 3,

and the author of a best-selling book, The Jaws Log,

an indispensable production guide and behind-the-scenes look at the making of one of Hollywood's greatest adventure films.
