Hello from CNN. I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, March 10th.

My government will keep our tariffs on until the Americans show us respect. That was Mark Carney, speaking after he was elected to replace Justin Trudeau as the leader

of Canada's Liberal Party.

He'll take over immediately, but he won't become pro-minister just yet, because Trudeau is set

to stay in the job for a transitional period while Carney gets settled.

We don't know how long that will take, though.

Carney will be leading his party into the country's federal elections, which have to be held before October,

and he'll have his work cut out for him, because the conservatives are currently leading in the polls.

As you heard there, one of the biggest issues he'll have to tackle is Canada's souring relationship

with the U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly blamed Canada for a legal immigration into the

U.S., threatened to turn Canada into a 51st state, and imposed steep tariffs on Canadian imports,

which Connie has vowed to fight.

In trade as in hockey, Canada will win.

Trump is predicting, quote, big things from critical talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia this week.

And sources tell CNN, U.S. officials will speak with Russia as well.

We have a lot of good people going out there, and I think Ukraine's going to do well, and I think what she's going to do.

I think some very big things could happen this week.
