This is CBSI and the world. I'm John Batchezer. Gordon Chang at Gordon Ging Chang, my colleague

and co-host and friend. And we're to Canada, to our good colleague, Charles Burton, of synopsis,

who is going to help us with the new government. Mr. Carney, elected very comfortably by the Canadian government. Mr. Carney elected very comfortably by the Canadian citizens and after a great

deal of drama to do with the President of the United States has now settled down to the business

at hand, which is a cabinet. And cabinets are new for my interpretation. I need Charles' help, but I zero in on the Reuters release on one particular cabinet position that looks to be significant.

The man's name is Tim Hodgson.

He's said to be a former Goldman Sachs banker, and he's been given the portfolio of the Natural Resources Minister.

I take it that means all the good stuff.

What is Mr. Carney saying with this appointment?

Well, I think that there's a desire for Canada to strengthen its economy against economic downturn due to U.S. tariffs.

And one of the aspects to strengthen it would be to start pulling minerals out of the north,

particularly critical minerals, which are so important to modern technology.

And so Mr. Hudson is a, you know, a well-known, strong figure with a lot of managerial experience

would be tasked with trying to resolve the indigenous rights and environmental barriers

to actually getting roads up into the north and getting shovels into the soil to get those natural resources to market.

So it is a very significant posting.

And the fact that Mr. Carney has been able to attract such a person to run for Parliament and serve in his cabinet is a tribute to his potential effectiveness as Canada's prime minister.

Does Goldman Sachs mean the same in Canada that it does in the U.S.? Whenever we see it now, there's eye-rolling because of Goldman Sachs' reputation as something exciting, romantic swashbubbuckling and

piraticals. Does it mean the same in Canada? Yes, I would say so, but certainly Mr. Carney
