Today I'm excited to share with you an interview I had on Brandon Burkemeyer's podcast, Brands on Brands. Branding is a great interviewer and I can't wait for you to hear our discussion about personal branding, going on a journey of self discovery and the difference between being creative and monetizing your brand.

In addition to how to be more consistent and y'all I can go on for the things that we talked about. It is a power punch conversation. Let's listen in.

0:46.0

Brands on Brands. All right, let's get going. I'm excited everyone to welcome our guest today, Jasmine Star to the show. Jasmine, thank you, first and foremost for being here.

0:58.0

Well, thank you for having me. We're talking about things that I absolutely love. So it's going to be a party.

1:02.0

Yeah, we have that in common. The reason I'm excited is why I want everyone to be listening today is we get to talk about my favorite marketing talk to right now, which is personal branding.

1:10.0

And from my perspective, I've worked corporate jobs for 18 years at agencies. So I understand what it means to have a resume but not a reputation outside of that.

1:20.0

I want to hear from you. Wait, wait, wait, wait, let's hold on. You're about to drop that mic. People have a resume and not a reputation.

1:28.0

Yeah, I think that's the podcast. If somewhere in there is the podcast episode title, that's a real rich. Okay, let's go on. I had to pause and just clap that moment up.

1:37.0

Well, it's my reason for this whole show, right? It's the mission behind it is like, let's get more people doing that.

1:43.0

But I want to talk to people like you who've done that, but let's start like top level first, like before we get into like very specific tactical things.

1:50.0

Let's take a step back and say, okay, like personal branding, it's not a buzzword, but like, what is the value of building the brand of you? And why does that matter?

1:59.0

When people are excited about a business, they will buy when they want when people are excited about a person, they will buy to support and support is endless.

2:10.0

And I think that that clear distinction and the best, most powerful mechanisms are when people buy a brand business and a personal business as one.

2:21.0

Then you are just like a tsunami. Yeah, you've, I've heard and I've listened to some of the work in other, in other talks and things like that. You've described yourself as something about the art versus the art like the artist.

2:32.0

Oh, yeah, and focusing on the artist and not the art. What like, can you explain that a little bit to me?

2:37.0

Because I want to understand like, if I'm selling a product or I'm selling me, how do you distinguish between the two? What's effective? What's the difference?

2:43.0

Well, first, I don't want to pontificate. I don't want to sound like Aristotle. I want to, I don't want to add like this is like the PhD of business.

2:49.0

So let's just strip this down and look at our human behavior and our human behavior is that oftentimes as consumers, we are buying highly educated products with no idea of what goes into them.

3:05.0

Right. If I buy a car, it is a highly sophisticated product that I have known nothing about. I just need to turn it on.

3:11.0

And the same way is that when somebody is investing in a photographer, they're not buying just the photographs, they're investing in the photographer. And the same way that you buy an art piece, it's not just the art piece, it's the artist.

3:22.0

And you're not just buying a course, you're buying it as a result of the course creator. So there's always this thing and this force behind it.
