President Trump has declared that peace in the Middle East is beyond very close as he presented

a new plan to end the war in Gaza in the present...

Today marks two years since Hamas launched its shocking attack on Israel and ignited a brutal war.

The suffering in Gaza has been overwhelming and the hope of a ceasefire has been dangled again and again.

I think this meeting in Cairo is different from what we've had before because this isn't

simply a swap of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages potentially leading to a ceasefire.

On Monday, negotiators assembled in Sharmul Sheikh in Egypt to hammer out the 20-point peace

plan announced by Donald Trump, with Benjamin Netanyahu stood at the president's side.

Patrick Winter, the Guardian's diplomatic editor, has been keeping a close eye on proceedings.

Tends to be these talks end up in some very glamorous hotel, but nobody sees very much food until right at the end of the whole process.

But it's going to be very tense because I think the stakes are so, so high.
