In fact, there are lots of ways to define both nationalism and the nation to which a nationalist program would be ideologically committed. It can be a sentiment in a variety of strengths, which can be quite good and valuable, or it can be a collectivist ideological project, which is not so good. Conquering nationalist regimes and programs is also a Communist bread-and-butter tactic. 0:40.9	not so keen on nations? Obviously, communism is an internationalist movement that is not keen on
0:47.9	national sovereignty. We look at things like the sustainable development agenda and so on net zero.

0:57.1	not national programs and so is nationalism an answer and it turns out nationalism is complicated
1:02.2	it doesn't sound like it's complicated but i dare you just go look it up just go type in
1:09.0	define nationalism and see what you get.
1:11.6	What you get is a ton of different answers.
1:13.6	It means a lot of different things and that's the real point of today's podcast.
1:20.6	So when I look it up here from the American Heritage Dictionary Nationalism, has nine different definitions,
1:29.5	nine different definitions, one of which is a devotion to one's country, which is given as a synonym to patriotism.
1:36.9	Now, I think that most people, other than communists, understand that to be good.
1:42.4	And I think it is an ingredient in a solution to a communist program.
1:48.3	But it's more complicated than that.
1:50.7	It also gives the policy of advocating the independence of one's country.
1:55.3	So independence and national sovereignty, I think, are also good things under the word nationalism that people should probably take
