What has changed is the new sense of urgency because something fundamental has shifted, our European values are under threat.

That's Ursula Fonder Lyon, speaking earlier this week to mark 100 days since the beginning of her

second term as European Commission President.

We see that sovereignty, but also ironclad commitments, are called into question.

Everything has become transactional.

But here's the thing.

This isn't the first time we've heard Fonder Lyon talking with a new sense of urgency in the middle of March.

It's also been five years since a novel respiratory virus simultaneously took the world by storm

and froze it in place.

I personally have a distinct memory of St. Patrick's Day in 2020.
