Welcome to Forum. I'm Michael Krasny. California prison officials frequently failed to enforce mask requirements for prison staff and inmates to stop the spread of coronavirus. That's according to a report issued just yesterday by the California Office of the Inspector General. As of this week, 76 incarcerated

persons and 10 members of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation staff have died of COVID-19,

and we're going to review the report. We're going to also discuss last week's state court order

that San Quentin State Prison release or transfer half of its inmate population to combat the spread of the

virus. And joining us, Julie Small, criminal justice and immigration reporter for KQED, and welcome, Julie.
