writing his column for California on your mind, looking at an autobiography of the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, who from this

distance 3,000 miles looks extremely attractive for the future of the

Democratic Party in the White House. He is California, he's got

a great head of hair, he makes remarks that I don't entirely understand, but they seem hip.

And right now his presentation includes skipping the

parts that don't work out like the deficit for the state, the homelessness, and

what Bill tells me is a general understanding that the governor's not in charge.
