He's the host of goodfellas as well as policy and politics. California politics. Bill's new column reminds me that there is the winter season, the spring season, the

summer season, and the bill signing season in California.

It turns out it's the month of September and there's some rules here,

Bill's going to introduce us to, but the what I like best is a saying that Bill tells me is associated with the

gubernatorial governorship of Jerry Brown once upon a time. Not every human problem deserves a law. You wouldn't know that from what we're

about to discuss. Bill, a very good evening to Bill signing season. When is

it and what does it mean? What does the governor have to do? Good evening.

Good evening, John. So the way California works is the legislature adjourns on the last day of August.

That's our last day of forward legislation to the governor, which they do. They send him hundreds and hundreds of

the bills this year, it's 991 bills sitting before him. And the governor

John then has one month, 30 days, to act on the legislation and he has to act on each and every one either

yay or its nays because under California law John a bill that the governor does not

render a verdict on automatically becomes law. So what you're going to see here on the days

remaining in September is Newsom almost on a daily basis

making news, either signing a bill or rejecting a bill.

Some of these are symbolic, some of these are important,

some of these are dum some of these are important, some of these are dumped late on a Friday to avoid public notice.

But it is the month of September in California, John, which is devoted to the governor's acting on legislation.

We've discussed before the bills that speak to property damage or theft or destruction of property.

As I recall, that has something to do with the pilfering that's been going on in the

center of certain cities in California.
