Now, Susie may be one of the most paradoxical television characters ever,

impetuous, explosive, and yet sensitive and soft-hearted where her daughter is concerned.

She doesn't take anyone's crap, but generously dulls out her own.

Her wardrobe somehow puts an exclamation point on all this.

You wouldn't want to get into a shoddy match with her because you would surely lose, whether

in terms of volume or passion.

And yet, despite her many flaws, you cannot but love her.

She's a treasure, too assertive ever to be buried,

and both actors and character

make most other forces of nature look like wimps.
