Friday, August 15th, 2025. Two very different inflation prints surfacing this week,

resulting in two very different market reactions. So how did we move from a strong market rally on Tuesday to diminished hopes for a rate cut on Friday.

There's a lot of nuance that we need to work through, but I think it's safe to say that

CPI is pretty well grounded, and the question is, is it going to continue to rise at the rate

that we saw in PPI?

On Tuesday, July's CPI print raised the odds of a rate cut at the next Fed meeting in September,

as the numbers from the Consumer Price Index showed inflation rose modestly and in line with

expectations.

That set the markets on a strong path that saw the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ notch closing highs

for days in a row, with many predicting a rate cut likely in September.

This prediction was thrown into question on Thursday, however, after we got the producer price

index numbers, which demonstrate how inflation is heating up on the manufacturing side.

July's PPI rose 9 tenths of a percent, which is the largest monthly surge since June of 2022.
