I'm Jerry Willis. This is the Fox Business Rundown.

Monday, October 6, 2025. The shutdown enters its second week. The question remains,

how long can the markets ignore it? I think overall the picture is markets are focused on

earnings, economic growth.

In a truth social post on Monday morning, President Trump praised the economy and his tariff policies

saying they are making America, quote, an economic power again.

He also touted the market's performance lately, and he's not wrong.

We kick up a new week coming off the

rally last week that was fueled by artificial intelligence stocks and the growing expectations

for a Fed rate cut. But as things appear to be moving on Wall Street in Washington, D.C., things

are at a standstill as the government shutdown enters its second week.

And while traders have mostly shrugged off the stalemate and concerns a shutdown could impact the economy so far,

how long can they continue to do so if it drags out for weeks?

I mean, I think it's a pretty long time.

If you look at the longest government shutdown we've ever had, it was 35 days, and the impact

was like $3 billion on the economy, which is like 0.02%, Jerry, not very much, which says to me,

maybe governments are not that efficient if they're not impacting the economy

that much. So I think that's what the market's telling you right now. And, you know, ideally,

we get to a deal soon. We know it's not essential workers, essentially that at this point are not

working. But I think overall the picture is markets are focused on earnings, economic growth,
