Summary

Despite all of the success Donna Rudolph has had with Teeny Tiny Treatments, she still only considers it her side hustle. All three of Donna’s babies suffered from the dermatological condition called cradle cap, and while there are products already on the market, Donna found them to be ineffective and time-consuming. So, she created Noggin Wipes, her own avocado-oil based wipes, which were quickly picked up by top retailers like buybuy BABY. Donna remains a full-time teacher, though she hopes to one day be able to focus solely on her entrepreneurial passions.

Donna’s success is a testament to the power of networking, which she advises is the most crucial aspect of growing a business. From the beginning, Donna put herself and her product in front of people who could help her, or connect her to others who could. Donna prefers to focus on her podcast and newsletter, realizing the importance and circular nature of giving. Whatever your method of engagement is, it’s about putting, and keeping, yourself on the radar.

You don’t have to risk it all upfront to find success. It's possible for your entrepreneurial journey to begin as a side hustle. Follow along as Donna shares the importance of persistence, what message you should give to your children about prioritizing work, and why you are always your own worst enemy–and greatest ally.

Quotes

• “I’m not saying that you should just buy the first package that you see of someone who says they’re going to help you, but there are certain things that are totally worth spending money on. You have to spend money smartly. But when you do, it’s totally worth it.” (13:42-13:56 | Donna)

• “You have to go into your business like you’re going to Vegas. You have to think, ‘I’m about to lose money.’ And as much money as you think you’re about to lose, you’re going to lose double that amount, when you’re creating a product.” (16:06-16:20 | Donna)

• “It’s all about being on the radar. You just want to get yourself on the radar. So I would say my biggest tip is to get yourself on everybody else’s radar.” (39:54-40:04 | Donna)

• “You do not need to have a million-dollar marketing budget to get on people’s radars. It’s about being strategic and being resourceful and utilizing people who are in your network and in your space to help share your message. (40:46-41:00 | Lindsay)
