Summary

If you've ever wondered how Money with Katie went from a $0 side hustle to a half-million venture in two years (and if you can do the same!), then this episode is for you. Today, I'm getting into the weeds and sharing exactly how Money with Katie makes money, all things sponsorships and affiliates, and even ventures I tried that didn't quite pan out. I share real numbers and stories, beyond just the surface-level stuff you've heard before. And because becoming a creative entrepreneur often means budgeting with variable income, I invited Lauren Anastasio, director of financial advice at Stash, to talk about setting yourself up for financial success from day one of your entrepreneurial journey. I'm your host, Katie Gatti Tossan, and I'm back this week with the world's most meta

0:16.8

episode.

0:24.3

I could have made it even more meta by publishing it as a blog post, but I wanted you

0:29.6

to hear from my guest, Lauren Anastasio, the director of Financial Advice and CFP at Stash.

So I decided the podcast was the way to go.

Today's episode is all about making it as a creative entrepreneur and, more specifically,

0:46.1

my exact process of monetizing money with Katie as a micro personal finance media brand.

0:53.7

I want to disclaim up front though, I'm not claiming that any of this information is the

0:57.4

best way to do any of it, or that it's the most efficient or anything of the sort.

1:02.2

Just that it's what I did and it worked well for me.

1:05.4

The inspiration for this episode came from a blog post that I wrote a while ago about

1:09.8

how March 2020's mindset shift, AKA I need to get my shit together and protect myself

1:16.1

from the uncertainty of what's to come, can continue to serve us in 2022.

1:21.2

And in that post, I offhandedly made a comment about how some months money with Katie would

1:26.4

make $40,000 to $50,000 and that it was pretty consistently netting over $20,000 a month

1:32.3

in 2021.

1:34.4

Rather predictably, a lot of people were like, yeah, yeah, recession-proofing, that's cool.

1:38.9

But how the hell did you make $40,000 a month from a blog?

1:43.2

Except for the one comment that was like, I honestly would have expected it to be more.

1:47.5

So okay, pal, sorry to disappoint.

1:49.4

But I've never really gone into any level of depth about this because I guess I just figured
