I'm a director at Software Architect and Riem Wrangler at ThoughtWorks, and I'm joined by two of my colleagues.

Hi, I'm Rachel Leacock. I'm the co-head of technology for ThoughtWorks in North America.

And I'm Johnny LaRoy, working with Rachel.

So many of you may be familiar with the ThoughtWorks Technology Radar, which is a white paper slash interactive website that we produce twice a year.

But we've also done an exercise with some of our clients where we assist them building

their own technology radar.

And that's what this podcast is about.

So the technology radar came about at ThoughtWorks out of conversations that happened in this

advisory board for the CTO, Rebecca

Parsons, and she was looking for a group of people to advise her about technology choices.

And we eventually started publishing some of our technology recommendations in this technology

radar white paper, which grew into an interactive website, which you can look at at

ThoughtWorks.com slash radar to look at the most recent one. And I'll give you a brief description

of the structure of the radar, so you know what all the pieces mean. There are four rings on our

radar. The outermost ring is hold, meaning that these are technologies you shouldn't start

anything new in.

We're not expecting you to abandon these technologies right away, but you shouldn't start new projects in them because we're suggesting alternatives.
