Summary

The Bryan Kohberger case held hearings on January 23rd and 24th, 2025. The first part of the hearing was sealed, and the rest were public. The defense argued motions to suppress evidence, including what was gathered from Kohberger's apartment, Amazon account, Apple accounts, cell phone data, and vehicle. The defense also requested a Franks Hearing to determine if there were misstatements or omissions in the affidavits that led to the search warrants.

The court indicated that it was not persuaded that the Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) DNA evidence would be suppressed and questioned Kohberger's right to privacy in DNA databases that he had not submitted his DNA to. The court also questioned whether DNA on a knife sheath that tracked back to the defendant was enough for a judge or magistrate to find probable cause for search warrant affidavits.

The court warned the state that its expert disclosure work was not done and needed to be supplemented. The judge has been thoughtful in their rulings and has taken charge of the trial, toning down the courtroom theatrics.

Welcome back. It's time for a quick bit clip. The full episode will be linked in the description,

but this is the quick bit clip to keep you in the loop for everything that's happening on the

0:11.1

live stream channel. Let's get into it. We are going to live court in the state of Idaho

0:18.1

versus Brian Coburger. The reason we are going to live court in the afternoon

0:23.1

is because this hearing started in the morning

0:25.9

and was sealed to the public,

0:28.2

meaning no public at all.

0:31.3

So we were waiting for the public portion of the hearing.

0:36.1

There was a hearing that was emergency docketed yesterday on

0:41.2

January 22nd, where a media coalition, through their attorney, the same attorney who's in the

Idaho TikTok psychic defamation case representing the professor, same attorney, was in court

0:56.8

via Zoom yesterday arguing that the public has the right to access all of these hearings.

1:02.9

At the end of the day, the court said, yeah, no.

1:06.2

So the hearings this morning were hearings with witnesses.

1:10.1

And by this morning, I mean most of the day,

1:12.9

local time, mountain time before and after the lunch break. So they had multiple, I assume,

1:20.5

witnesses testify. I would love to tell you what the witness list looks like and who testified,

1:25.6

but it's also sealed. So the hearings today are

1:30.2

regarding motions to suppress. What does that mean? It means the defense has made their motions

1:36.7

to suppress a whole bunch of evidence before this goes to trial, including evidence gathered

1:43.4

from Brian Cobger's apartment,

1:45.8

his Amazon account, his Apple accounts, anything taken in a search with the arrest warrant,
