Today, I am blessed to have here with me Brian Gryn. He is part personal trainer, part golfer, part internet entrepreneur, part author, part health coach and he has a passion for getting the most out of individuals. Through his Integrative Institute of Nutrition education and ten years of group training/coaching, Brian has learned that eating can help the body heal itself. However, he knew there were missing pieces of the puzzle that could help impact people's health. Brian realized that nutrition and meal timing are huge aspects of health. The impact that fasting had on Brian’s health really inspired his career in the health and fitness industry. [06:35] Step Number One: Creating Clarity and Set Your Baseline Where are you starting from? Brian likes to use a DEXA scan. A DEXA scan is an imaging test that measures bone density (strength). A lot of people think they can just weigh themselves. However, weight is just a small part of what you should be focusing on. Instead, you want to think about your bone mass, fat mass, and how your clothes are fitting. Next, you want to get crystal clear on your “why.” [11:35] Step Number Two: Small Changes and Big Results Masterplan Identify the low-hanging fruits. What can make the biggest impact right away? People get discouraged if they don’t get small wins. So, focus on some low-hanging fruit that can make a big impact. Then, you can move on to other things that can optimize your health. For example, cutting alcohol can be one of those low-hanging fruits. [13:55] Step Number Three: Activity Upgrade Brian is a huge fan of variable resistance training. He loves the X3 Program. Plus, if you don’t exercise at all, going outside and taking steps every day is a great way to upgrade your activity. [17:45] Step Number Four: Sleep Like a Superhero Game Plan You should build a simple, manageable routine around sleep. Prioritizing sleep is one of the first steps you should take. Also, you don’t want to be in fight or flight mode all day. Night meditation is a great way to end the day. Focus on clearing and calming your mind. That way, you will be in a good mindset for your sleep. [27:00] Step Number Six: Nutrition and Meal Timing Clean up your eating and get fat-adapted. Lowering your carbs can help you get off the glucose roller coaster. Down the road, you can cut the number of meals you eat each day. Once you wrap your arms around nutrition, then you can start to look at fasting.
