And today's guest is Brian Davis. He's a real estate investor, personal finance writer, and co-founder of

Spark Rental with over two decades of experience in the industry. Brian loves showing others

So glad to be here.

How did you get into real estate?

That's the question that I want to start out with.

You know, I fell into it by accident, which is not a sexy answer, right?

To expand on that a little bit, so I graduated college back in 2003.

I had zero clue what I wanted to do with my life. In some ways, I still don't know what I want to do with my life. But, you know, so I was asking my parents like, hey, can you just like introduce me around to your friends so I can figure out what people actually do? You know, like, what do adults do with their time all day? Because you grow up and you,

you know about like five different jobs, right? You know like firefighter and like police officer and teacher, maybe accountant, you know, like, but you don't know what the average person is

doing with their actual, you know, their day-to-day work at like 1118 on a Tuesday morning.

So anyway, a friend of my stepdad's was a owner of a nationwide, who's a subprime mortgage

company, which, you know, nowadays we look back and we're like, oh, my, you know, we kind of

hold our noses.

But at the time in 2003, that was, that was cool, right? Like, you know, those people were out like saving the world and, like, helping poor people

buy homes for the first time and all that kind of stuff.

So anyway, I went and interned for this company for a summer.

And at the end of the summer, the guy came to me and he's like, hey, we don't need another

loan officer.
