The post-4th of July week has just been strange here in America.

I'd like to write it off as summertime blues.

But it goes much deeper than that.

There seems no end in sight for the mayor's shootings that make participating

in public events feel like an iffy proposition at best.

There's also a new COVID strain on the horizon, aptly called the Ninja variant,

because it's able to slip past our immune system, ninja style,

contributing to the rising rate of breakthrough cases and reinfections.

Apparently epidemiologists have been sounding the alarm for months

and are now blaming the rise of ninja, at least in part,

on the stubborn anti-vax minority.
