Summary

Manchester City have had their two-year Champions League ban overturned and fine lowered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. City had been issued the ban in February after Uefa found they had committed 'serious breaches' of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016. But the ban has been overturned after Cas cleared the Manchester club of "disguising equity funds" through sponsorship deals done. City have been fined 10m euros. However, that is reduced from their initial 30m euros fine. Join Guy Clarke and Matt Addison as they discuss the implications of the ruling for Pep Guardiola's side, their biggest rivals Liverpool, and the integrity of the financial model moving forward. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. Welcome to the Blood Red Channel on the morning, the Court of Arbitration for Sport have handed down

0:14.1

their ruling on Manchester City's alleged breach of financial fair play. I'm Guy

0:19.3

Clark alongside me Matt Addison as we get ready to react of course from a little

0:23.8

point of view to the huge news involving their Premier League title rivals

0:28.4

Manchester City. Matt we've had the news in that Manchester City's ban from European club competitions has been lifted.

0:36.3

Of course it was a two-year ban that initially was imposed on them in February,

0:40.3

and their fine has been maintained, but it has been reduced to 10 million euros.

0:45.8

I mean it's a lot of news to try and get our heads around but essentially Man City are

0:50.3

free to play in the Champions League as from next season again.

0:54.7

Yeah I think the the band being obviously taken away completely is the big thing

0:59.6

the fine isn't a particularly important detail and when there's news as big as this you sort of have to

1:04.8

simplify it as much as possible and I suppose yeah that is that the bottom line is that Manchester City.

1:10.4

Initially having got that ban of two years they're now free to play in not just

1:15.6

obviously the rest of this year which they would have done so anyway but for the

1:18.9

next two seasons it's it's not going to be an issue for them. So yeah for Liverpool plenty of

1:24.0

implications which I'm sure we're going to come on to but I mean this is just a huge

1:28.0

story really for not just for Manchester City but for football more generally for the future of FFP you have to question you know financial fair play what is going to

1:36.6

happen with that in the future because you know this cash ruling I think has a set of

1:40.8

precedent now for the future teams to possibly find ways

1:44.4

round it and things like that so it's it's going to have a lot of of widespread

1:48.4

implications and as I say it's it's breaking new so we're still trying to take it
