With just a few days to go into the start of the new season,

Marcella Bielsa has finally signed a new contract at Leeds.

I'm the Athletics News editor, Amitai Winehouse,

and joining me now is our lead United writer, Phil Hay.

Phil, tell us about the deal.

Well, it's been a long time in the making, certainly by the standards of a club who expected

to extend this fairly easily.

I mean, they knew that there would be complications with Bielsa.

They knew that it wouldn't be an overnight process because it never is.

But it's a 12-month extension for him

which takes him to the end of the 20-21 season,

the end of Leeds' first Premier League season.

It's been on the table for the best part of a month.

Now, they've been in broad agreement about it

really since pre-season started,

and it's just been a case of finalising

the emptying details that are always in there.

But as an overall package, they pay in excess of £6 million to be also.

It's a wage bill that covers him and also the staff in his coaching team and the assistants round about him.

So, you know, when he came in, he was the highest paid manager in Leeds history.
