Welcome to Breaking Down Patriarchy. I'm Amy McPhee, Allabest. As regular listeners are aware, I come from a Mormon background. And while Breaking Down Patriarchy is not at all church affiliated and we strive to explore a diversity of perspectives and stories, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does come up pretty often

because it's the context in which I personally experienced the most overt manifestations of patriarchy.

Also, season two has largely featured personal stories. And when we began accepting submissions

for the season, we received an outpouring of stories

about women in the LBS Church, stories about how the church has affected their relationships,

how it's affected their careers, their faith, their sense of self-worth.

And while we are very much dedicated to continuing to seek out and promote diverse voices, we also believe

that this surge of stories from Mormon women needs to be heard. We received so many of these

submissions that to listen to them all at once would be overwhelming, so we've decided to

split them up to make sure that we can pay adequate attention to each individual experience.

So today we'll be hearing several short personal stories from women raised in Mormon homes,

and then we'll return and hear more of these stories later in the season.

We're so grateful for each and every one of these contributors for finding the courage to speak

and the wisdom to recognize that we all deserve better

than the patriarchy that we were raised under. Later in the episode, we'll hear from my dear

friend and Force of Nature Chelsea Homer, as well as an important piece from an anonymous

contributor. But first, we're going to be joined by the incredible Tiffany Sobey of the Sisterhood

podcast,

who shares a brief but powerful story, talking to us about the courage to ask questions,

the importance of women's representation, the value of male allies, and the loneliness

that standing up as an advocate can bring.
