So I've had a long history with Murray Bowen and his famous theory. My very first lecture as a professor was on Bowen in theory.

0:11.0

At the time I was 26 and terrified out of my mind. The night

0:17.6

before I had to give the lecture I almost quit my assistant teaching gig because I was so terrified. I remember I was

0:25.6

pacing back and forth in my apartment and so close to just picking up the phone

0:31.1

and saying I give up I never mind I don't want to be a teacher

1:48.9

I've also used this theory in my own work with my clients. And as a professor in a family therapy program for the past, well,

1:59.3

since 98, so almost 17 years now. I've used his model of self-differentiation as a model to

2:09.5

encourage therapists and

2:15.0

I teach in training to grow as a person and become better therapists. In other words, in the program that I teach,

2:18.0
