You know, one of the things that I always like to ask general managers,

usually off the record, although it makes for an interesting conversation

sometimes on the record is, would you lie to protect your

hockey team would you lie to protect your players would you lie to protect your

coaching staff would you lie to protect your owner and invariably the answer is always yes like whether we like

it or not lying is a big part of the hockey industry lying is a part of

lots of industries lyingying is a part of lots of industries.

Lying is a huge part of my industry.

It's probably a big part of your industry as well.

It's all baked into the pie.

Lies just go with life. It's an uncomfortable truth, but there it is for everyone. And in that

clip that you heard from Jim Rutherford, what he was lamenting was the fact that he was too

honest when he was asked about Bruce Boudreau, when he was asked about his

thoughts on what happened last season, his thoughts on how the team plays now,

his thoughts on if he's had conversations

with other coaches looking to replace Bruce Boudreau.

Normally that's where the unwritten rule of you lie to protect your team comes in.
