On today's show, I'm talking to John Kramer about long-term book marketing strategies.

Now, John's 1001 ways to market your book was the first marketing book I ever bought. So it probably would have been

early 2008 before I got into any of this. And I used to listen to his audio programs, as they

were called back then, before podcasting really began. And I would download his MP3s and listen to him

talk about marketing. So it was really fun to connect and

talk about ideas and what's changed and what hasn't changed because I really did start my

author career by buying his book. And of course he's rewritten it a number of times since then.

But the principles still remain, which is good. This is also an episode about attitude and the importance of time in the

market. As John says, our goal is to stay out there long enough that the people that need you or

want you or hope to find you actually do find you. It's funny, we get bored with our own stuff

much earlier than other people do as in most people

have only just started finding us maybe this is even the first time you ever listen to this episode

often in a hurry to sell that first book and make an impact and grow our email list

obsession with debuts. But that's not really the reality of a long-term author career. And most
