July 23 marks the anniversary of the debut of her radio sitcom My Favorite Husband, a show that paved the way for

her classic TV series, I Love Lucy.

And in honor of that anniversary, end with her August 6th birthday right around the corner,

today we'll hear Lucille Ball and my favorite husband.

But first, we'll hear her in one of my favorite radio comedy shows of all time.

An episode of the Abbott and Costello show featuring Lucy and a pair of nylon stockings.

Originally aired on NBC on November 18th,

1943, this one finds Lou desperate for a pair of nylons

to give to singer Connie Haynes. But when Lucy buys the store's last pair,

Butter Ball Costello tries to butter her up. This was one of the first radio shows I ever heard way back when I first got into

old time radio. It was part of a four cassette eight episode collection of Abbott and

Costello that my parents got me for Christmas.

Years later I heard it again as part of a Too Hot for Radio Collection.

It was a bunch of shows that had been considered scandalously salacious back in the day.
