mean streets and here in the States, baseball is back, sort of. And to

celebrate the return of America's pastime, I've picked out a pair of baseball themed

episodes from two of my favorite old-time radio comedy stars.

First up is Jack Benny, in an episode originally aired on NBC on October 10th, 1948.

Jacks invited his gang, Phil Harris, Dennis Day, Don Wilson, Mary Livingston, and Rochester

to join him as he listens to the World Series game between the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Braves.

On the date this show aired, Boston defeated Cleveland 11 to 5, but the Indians would come back to win the series the next night.

Meanwhile, Jack is dealing with a mysterious echo that only he can hear, a plot thread that started the week before,

and one that would continue over the next several weeks.

It's a fun episode, despite the inclusion of a number from the Sportsman Quartet around the

Braves and the Indians that's far from culturally sensitive.

Then we'll hear Eve Arden as Our Miss Brooks in an episode from March 26th, 1950.

It's almost the start of Madison's baseball season, but the lack of funds in the school's athletic fund

means there may not be any new uniforms this season.
