All of that is because of burglars. Even if your home is never burgled, you hear stories and read stories and know of people who've been burgled and it's frustrating, it's angry. If every person who did it knew they were going to end up dead from doing it, then they wouldn't do it.

We have such friendly and nice people in this area and so this must have been an intrusion as they say because we are just so settled and quiet here.

While rushing to the scene police learned the homeowner shot the suspected burglar police say when they arrived, they found the suspect on the bathroom floor and a large pool of blood and a responding officer saved the suspect's life by using a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

3:21.0

According to BPD, the homeowner was well within his rights to fire the gun.

3:26.0

Even though they are the one who shot the suspect, they are still the victim. The suspect is the one who broke the law and committed a crime and as a result, he was shot.

3:36.0

And legal experts agree.

Some of the states refer to them as the Catholic doctrine or standard ground doctrines in Texas. We call it self defense, defense of others and defense of property. Those are the three justifications.

3:49.0

Criminal defense lawyer Ryan Gertz says Texas allows reasonable force to be used.

3:54.0

So a justification means I did the conduct I'm accused of doing, but I'm justified in doing so for this particular reason.

4:03.0

Beaumont police say that as soon as Cruz recovers, he will be taken to the Jefferson County jail. His bond has already been preset to $100,000.
