Catholic Vote Political Director Logan Church. For over seven years, Logan has been an emerging

leader in the campaign world. Having worked on over a dozen campaigns in six states, Logan dedicated

her career to electing quality candidates to public office. And now she

continues that dedication. We are so fortunate at Catholic Vote as our national political director.

She spends her time assessing races and initiatives nationwide in order to ensure that Catholic

vote is empowered to make a difference on the ground. And this month,

we are turning to her home state of Ohio. So we are focusing on the Buckeye state. And for everyone

who's listening, the reason we are focusing on this today is because coming up on August 8th and

early voting is open now. So if you are in Ohio, go vote immediately after watching this program.

Ohioans are going to vote in a special election on a proposed amendment to their state constitution.

The amendment is known as issue one. And it would change the voting threshold for constitutional amendments from 50% plus one to a 6040 vote. So Logan, that sounds so insider baseball to me.

And I'm sure a few people's eyes just glazed over. I'm going to encourage them to keep listening

because can you explain to us what is issue one in Ohio? And why is Catholic vote taking such an

interest in what feels like a real kind of local state issue?

Yeah. So first of all, thanks for having me on. And it is a little bit of insider baseball, but I will break it down the best that I can. So issue one on August 8. For those in Ohio, make sure you remember to vote yes on issue 1 on August 8. That's all you have to remember when you walk in there.

The 50% plus one threshold that we have in Ohio right now

leaves us very, very vulnerable to outsider groups such as Planned Parenthood or the ACLU

to decide they're going to come in and they're going to purchase our Constitution.

As it stands, there are only 18 states

in the U.S. that even allow constitutional amendments on the ballot, and our threshold happens to be

one of the lowest. And so what does that mean for Ohio and what does that mean for Catholic votes?
