And we're really excited to welcome back to the podcast today, our first guest. And I think the person who has been on this podcast the most, and that, of course, is my old friend, Stephen Wirtime.

Steven's a senior fellow in the American Statecraft program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace,

and he's one of the nation's most prominent writers on U.S. foreign policy from a restraint,

slash I would add, though he couldn't say this in D.C. left-wing perspective.

I hesitate to say my pleasure, but we'll see what happens.

So before we get into foreign policy, I would just like to hear your take on what actually

happened in the election. Obviously, even though you focus professionally at foreign policy,

you're well-versed in the history of American politics, American coalition building,

American elections, and whatnot. So we've heard a lot of different, read a lot of different reactions to the election,

but what's your understanding of what went on, what Trump's slight popular vote victory

suggests with the Democratic Party's inability to put together a coalition and lose millions

of votes indicates about the future or the presence of politics in the United States?

Well, I have some thoughts, but I'm actually doing my darnness to reserve judgment
