First of all, thank you all so much for being here.

It means the world to me that we got you guys to come out this night after the longest

January in recorded history.

But I've been doing this show and I'll speak along for about 29 years.

Thank you.

I think so too.

And I'm happy to say that our guest for this evening, Edward Norton, has been doing this show

since Fight Club in 1999.

He's been a big supporter of this show.

It's one of the thrilling reasons to have him here.

I think when he's managed to do with his career, and we should say, by the way, for a complete

unknown, this is his fourth Academy Award nomination.

And well-deserved, because I think what he's managed to do over the course of these, just the

films he was nominated for, for this, or for primal fear, or American History X, or Birdman, is unlike

many other actors, he managed to examine the way the movies deal with masculinity without commenting

on this, telling us how we should react.

He uses his character as a way to deal with that.

I think that makes him unique as an actor and as an artist.
