In this insightful bonus episode, Rachel dives into the phenomenon of "cult hopping," a term used to describe the pattern of individuals moving from one high-control environment to another, often without recognizing the similarities between them. She explores how past experiences in cults can lead to subconscious behaviors that draw individuals to new groups that may appear different on the surface but share underlying dynamics of control and manipulation.

Rachel discusses the emotional and psychological factors that contribute to cult hopping, including trauma repetition, identity crises, and cognitive vulnerability. She emphasizes that many survivors of cults often find themselves seeking out new ideologies or relationships that mimic the familiar structures they were conditioned to accept, even if these new environments prove to be harmful.

Through real-life examples, Rachel illustrates how individuals can unintentionally trade one controlling ideology for another, whether it be in self-help groups, political movements, or other high-control environments. She stresses the importance of recognizing these patterns and understanding the psychological landscape of cult hopping as a crucial step toward reclaiming autonomy and ensuring healthier future choices.

This episode is a vital resource for anyone who has experienced the complexities of leaving a cult or high-control group and is seeking clarity on their journey to healing and self-discovery. Stay tuned for part two of this discussion, where Rachel will continue to unpack the intricacies of cult hopping and offer further insights into breaking free from these patterns.

Hello, everyone. Today for this bonus episode, I want to be able to talk to you about something

0:43.4

that my clients bring up quite a bit and other people bring up in this realm, in this field,

0:51.0

this idea of cult hopping, where people get involved in one group and then another

0:57.0

group, sometimes it happens because they learn after they're involved in a particular

1:03.5

cultic group that if something happens that looks similar to that, like it's a similar belief system or people are dressed in a

1:13.8

similar way. Well, that alerts people to know, ah, this could be a cult just like the cult I was in.

1:19.9

But if it exists in a different way, a different kind of format has a different appearance, a different

1:25.8

kind of theology, philosophy, group dynamics,

1:31.7

that somehow it's safe. And it's not necessarily. It's important to be looking for other

1:37.3

traits and other similarities. It's also true that some people will say that after they got

1:43.5

out of a cult, they got into a

1:45.0

relationship with a narcissist or vice versa. They started either being raised by narcissistic

1:51.2

parents or by being in a relationship with a narcissist and then they got involved in a cult

1:55.6

and they feel like they've been sort of cult hopping their whole lives because they

1:59.6

have this sense of how they're

2:01.3

supposed to behave in those kinds of relationships, that they're supposed to be deferential,

2:08.0

they're supposed to be subservient, they're supposed to be people pleasing, they're supposed to

2:12.0

go along with things, they are supposed to be the helpers and not speak up.
