Summary

Can you run a specific workout pace on feel alone?  Without looking at your watch?  Tempo runs, steady runs, threshold runs, VO2 max workouts...they all have a "feel" to them and if you can learn how to pace them properly without being a slave to your watch, you can become a better, more adaptable runner.

On this bonus episode of the Run to the Top, Coach Claire Bartholic introduces Laurie, a RunnersConnect athlete that has gotten very good at learning to pace by feel and effort.  Laurie shares how she does it and Coach Claire explains how you can figure out how you should feel in any given workout by understanding the specific purpose of each one.

The most rewarding part for me has been I think seeing myself overcome challenges that I didn't see myself overcoming.

I think running has been in so many ways like the perfect microcosm of life and that you start to realize

0:21.2

the labels that you put on yourself and something about running I think

0:26.0

challenged those labels for me I was that kid that never really participated in team

0:30.1

sports very early on I sort of took the nerdy track and so I was the kid that

0:34.3

focused on studies and while I was always active I really didn't learn some of

those coordination skills that you pick up in team sports. I would have never

called myself an

0:42.9

athlete and I think it wasn't until I hit age 38 and started running and

0:47.4

started challenging myself that I started to question that label and ask

0:52.1

myself why have I just why did I decide that I wasn't an athlete who

0:56.4

who gave me that label nobody gave me that label I I refuse to give myself that label and

1:01.6

so learning to challenge myself and running and

1:05.3

get better at something that I previously just didn't identify with and labeling

1:10.1

myself as an athlete was one of those things that really made me stop and ask myself

1:14.3

what other labels am I giving myself that might not be accurate.
