Summary

Sydney is shell-shocked after the deadliest terrorist attack ever on Australian soil. Sixteen people are dead and at least 40 wounded after gunmen executed Jewish families celebrating the first night of Hannukah at Australia's most famous beach. It's terribly, terribly sad in Sydney at the moment, especially amongst Sydney's small but

close-knit Jewish community.

My eight-year-old twins got to see me cry this morning,

Another positive thing today, the bravest character in the horrific events of last night,

the guy who tackled one of the shooters, unarmed and wrestled his gun from him,

and undoubtedly saved many lives.

foster a spirit of civility between Jews and Muslims and make sure that we didn't caricature

the Muslim community as anti-Jewish, you couldn't do better than pick a name like Ahmed Ahmed

which does not exactly hide its Arabian origins under a bushel.

The bad news, I suppose, is it certainly feels like I belong to the only ethnicity in Australia that cannot visibly congregate in public.

I can't think of any other community in Australia that cannot have a picnic today without fearing for their lives.

And the fact that we've gotten to this situation, like a frog in boiling water, how we got
